Mystery charge on your card? Find who billed the subscription
Start with the statement descriptor, not the app icon. An unrecognized subscription charge is usually an Apple, Google Play, or merchant renewal you forgot—or a purchase on another account that shares your card. If the line says APPLE.COM/BILL (or apple.com/bill), sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com, open the purchase date for the full receipt, then cancel unwanted plans in Settings → Subscriptions (Apple Support: If you see apple.com/bill; Cancel a subscription). If the line shows GOOGLE, check pay.google.com and Play Subscriptions on every Google Account, then Cancel subscription (Google Play Help: Fix problems with subscriptions).
If neither store shows it and the descriptor is a company name, cancel with that merchant—Apple cannot manage purchases it did not bill (Apple Support: purchases not billed through Apple). Guidance checked 2026-10-18.
Do not cancel randomly inside every app. Read the statement descriptor first, match it to a receipt, then cancel only on the platform that owns that line. Only use the iPhone steps if you subscribed through the App Store (the charge on your statement says APPLE.COM/BILL). Only use the Android steps if you pay through Google Play (the charge says GOOGLE on the statement).
Who bills you
| Who bills you | Where to cancel | Official help |
|---|---|---|
| Apple (APPLE.COM/BILL) | reportaproblem.apple.com → open purchase date → cancel in Settings → Subscriptions if still renewing | apple.com/bill; Get help with apple.com/bill; Cancel |
| Google Play (GOOGLE on statement) | pay.google.com + Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions (try every Google Account) | Fix problems; Cancel |
| Merchant / company name | Sign in on that company’s site → account / billing → cancel; refunds go through the merchant | Apple: not billed through Apple |
| Shared card / Family Sharing | Ask household members; Apple Family organizers can review family purchases in Report a Problem | Apple Support |
How to identify the charge and stop the next one
Read the statement descriptor
- Note whether the line is APPLE.COM/BILL, GOOGLE (often with a service name after it), or a company name.
- Write down the date and amount before you open any refund form.
If Apple billed you
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and tap or click the purchase date for the full receipt (Apple Support).
- If nothing matches and you have more than one Apple Account, try each account—or ask family members who share the card (Apple Support).
- Cancel unwanted subscriptions: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → plan → Cancel Subscription (Apple Support).
- To ask for money back on an Apple-billed item: reportaproblem.apple.com → I'd like to → Request a refund (Apple Support).
If Google Play billed you
- Sign in at pay.google.com and check Play Order history / Subscriptions on every Google Account you use (Google Play Help).
- Search email for Play receipts; the Google Account on the receipt is the one that must cancel.
- Open the plan → Cancel subscription (Google Play Help).
- For a refund or unauthorized Google charge you do not recognize, use Google’s refund / report flows (Request a refund).
If the company name (not Apple or Google) is on the statement
- Cancel in that company’s website account or billing settings.
- Apple Support: for purchases not billed through the App Store or Apple In-App Purchase, contact the developer—Apple cannot cancel or refund those (Apple Support).
How to confirm it worked
You're done when:
- You can name the biller that matches the statement line.
- That platform’s subscription list shows the plan ending (will not renew), or you confirmed a one-time purchase.
- Any refund request was submitted on the same biller that took the money.

Common problems
- Grouped Apple charge. One APPLE.COM/BILL line can cover several items—expand the purchase date (Apple Support).
- Wrong Apple or Google Account. Use the account on the email receipt (Apple Support; Google Play Help).
- Family or shared card. A household member may have subscribed (Apple Support).
- Asked Apple about a merchant charge. Apple cannot help purchases it did not bill (HT118126).
- Only deleted the app. Store billing continues until you cancel in Subscriptions (Google Play Help).
