How to cancel or leave a family subscription plan
In the US (as of 2026-10-18), for Apple Family Sharing: a Family Sharing organizer cannot cancel a subscription purchased by another family member—that member must cancel on their own Apple Account (Apple Support: Cancel a subscription). Members can leave via Settings → Family → your name → Stop Using Family Sharing; organizers turn Family Sharing off to remove everyone (Leave or remove a member).
Tell members before you cancel a paid family SKU. Shared Apple subscriptions may be billed to the organizer when Purchase Sharing is on (Share subscriptions).
Family plans and Family Sharing are different products. Cancel the plan you pay for, and leave the sharing group if you only need to stop sharing.

Cancel or leave a family plan
If you pay for an Apple family / shared subscription
- Open Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Cancel the family or shared plan you purchased.
- Warn members that shared access ends per Apple’s Family Sharing rules when the group or share stops.
If a family member’s Apple subscription hits your card
- Ask that member to cancel in their Settings → Subscriptions.
- Organizers cannot cancel another member’s subscription (Apple Support).
- Consider Ask to Buy / purchase-sharing settings for future purchases.
If you need to leave or disband Family Sharing
- Member: Settings → Family → your name → Stop Using Family Sharing.
- Organizer: turn Family Sharing off the same way (removes everyone at once).
- Apple guide: access to shared subscriptions/content ends immediately when you leave or are removed.
Non-Apple family plans
- Open that service’s family or subscription settings on the web or in-app.
- Cancel the family SKU or remove members per that brand’s help.
- Cancel in Apple or Google Play if the statement shows those billers instead.
How to confirm it worked
You're done when:
- The paid family plan shows as canceled / ending on the billing platform.
- Members know when shared access ends.
- For Apple Family Sharing, you have left the group or turned sharing off if that was the goal.

Common problems
- Organizer tried to cancel a member’s App Store subscription. Not allowed—member must cancel (Apple Support).
- Left Family Sharing without canceling a solo plan you still own. Leaving sharing ≠ canceling every subscription on your account.
- Assumed mid-cycle refunds for unused seats. Confirm on that brand’s refund policy; see refunds.
