Want to stop Netflix? Open the Manage your membership page, choose Cancel, then Finish Cancellation - Netflix emails a confirmation and you keep watching until the billing period ends (Netflix Help: How to cancel Netflix). US list prices (checked 2026-10-18) are $8.99/month for Standard with ads, $19.99 for Standard, and $26.99 for Premium (Netflix Help: Plans and Pricing).

There is no cancellation fee and no annual plan. If Cancel never appears, a phone, TV or internet package partner is billing you - use the Membership section on your Account page and cancel with that partner. Extra member seats ($7.99–$9.99) are a separate line on your Netflix bill; remove them under Manage your membership if you only want to drop a shared seat without ending your own plan.

Signing out or deleting the Netflix app does not cancel anything - Netflix says the Manage your membership page is the only way to cancel. The good news is that leaving is low-risk: Netflix keeps your history for 24 months, so rejoining for one new season is a real option.

How to cancel Netflix

If Netflix bills you

  1. Sign in on netflix.com and open Manage your membership.
  2. Choose Cancel, then Finish Cancellation - stopping at Cancel alone does not end the plan.
  3. Wait for the confirmation email on the address tied to the account.

If Cancel never shows up

  1. Open your Account page and check the Membership section.
  2. That page names the payment partner (phone, TV or internet package). Follow its link or contact them to cancel - Netflix cannot cancel a partner bill for you.

If you only want a break

  1. On the Cancel Membership page, pick Pause for 1 Month instead of finishing cancellation.
  2. You keep watching until the next billing date; Netflix is not charged that cycle. Pause is limited for some payment methods (Direct Debit, gift cards, some partners).
Cancel Netflix on Manage your membership: Cancel, then Finish Cancellation, then check email

How to confirm it worked

You're done when:

  • You've clicked Finish Cancellation (stopping at Cancel isn't enough) and received the confirmation email.
  • Your Account page shows when your membership ends - Netflix's Terms say you can see that date there.
  • You aren't charged on your next billing date. Netflix says you won't be charged again unless you restart your account.

Common problems

  • No Cancel button. A package partner bills you. Check Membership on the Account page and cancel with that partner.
  • You only signed out or deleted the app. That does nothing to billing - use Manage your membership.
  • Someone at home restarted it. Change the password and use Sign out of all devices after you cancel.
  • Gift card or promo balance left. You can keep watching after cancel until that balance runs out.
  • Moving Netflix onto a phone/TV package. Link the existing account to the package; Netflix stops charging your card - you usually do not need a separate cancel first.
  • You wanted a partial-month refund. Terms say payments are nonrefundable for unused days (Terms of Use 2.8).

What we checked

Verified on official Netflix pages (October 18, 2026): US prices and plan features; monthly-only billing and the discontinued Basic plan; the cancel path (Manage your membership > Cancel > Finish Cancellation) and the confirmation email; payment-partner cancellation; watching until the end of the billing period; pause rules; 24-month retention of viewing activity, recommendations, ratings, account details and game data; no refunds for partial periods (Terms 2.8); cancellation taking effect at the end of the billing period (Terms 2.6).

Not verified - left out: price-increase dates (the old version cited a news report); which phone or TV providers bundle Netflix; Apple billing for older accounts (Netflix's cancel page doesn't list Apple, so we folded it into payment partners); in-app menu labels.

What happens after you cancel

  • You can keep watching until the end of your billing period.
  • Netflix keeps your viewing activity for 24 months after the account closes, along with recommendations, ratings, account details, gameplay history and game saves (for games without cloud saves, the game and data must still be on the device).
  • Rejoin any time within 24 months and you pick up where you left off (Netflix Help).

Pause instead of cancelling

Netflix lets you pause for 1 month from the Cancel Membership page: you keep watching until your next billing date, aren't charged on it, and billing resumes after a month. A week before it unpauses you can extend by one more month, up to 3 months in total. Netflix says pausing isn't available on the Basic plan or for some payment methods such as Direct Debit, gift cards and some partner payments (Netflix Help).

Netflix or Disney+ this month?

If you're cutting back to one streaming service, decide by what you'll actually watch in the next 30 days, not by the library in general:

  1. List the shows and films you plan to watch in the next month.
  2. If most of them are on one service, keep that one and cancel the other - both let you keep watching until your paid period ends.
  3. If both lists are short, cancel both and rejoin when a specific show arrives. Netflix keeps your history for 24 months.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to wait for the billing date to cancel?

No. Cancel any day. You keep watching until the period you already paid for ends; Netflix does not list a cancellation fee.

Cancel is missing - what now?

A payment partner is almost always the reason. Open Account, read the Membership section, and cancel with that phone, TV or internet provider.

What about Extra member seats?

They are optional add-ons ($7.99 with ads or $9.99 without on the US price list). Remove a seat under Manage your membership if you want to stop paying for someone outside your household without ending your own plan.

Is Basic still sold?

No. Netflix discontinued Basic. The cheapest US list plan is Standard with ads at $8.99 a month.

Will Netflix wipe my profiles?

Not immediately. Viewing history, ratings and account details stay for 24 months, so rejoining later picks up where you left off (Netflix Help).
